ARTISTS MAY APPLY
First of all, thank you for your interest in the Bayou City Art Festival, a juried fine art festival named number 3 by Sunshine Artists Magazine in 2007. All applications are online at www.zapplication.org. Directions are on the Zapplication web site.

The best method to present work in Zapplication is to submit the best, most cohesive images. Remember that the jurors will only see your images for a short time. Having cohesive slides ensures that the focus will be on your work.

HOW THE JURY WORKS
The jury is comprised of artists, curators, gallery owners, and others in the fine art festival field. The panel has a minimum of 7 voting members. The scale is 1-7 and a 4 is not allowed. Jurors are briefed to consider quality, originality, technical ability, appeal, and marketability. The cumulative score is processed and the top scores, 300 for BayouCity Art Festivals, receive an invitation to show in the festival.

As with all juries, it is a multi-day all-day process. Each artist’s work is viewed for approximately 50 seconds. Then the15 word artist statement is read to the jurors. The amount of applications makes for strong competition. We usually have 800+applications for 300 positions. Here are some tips to ensure a successful jury.

1. It is best to show a cohesive body of work to the jurors. Variety of styles tends to score lower. Artists who work in different styles or different media do better with separate applications for those styles.

2. It is important to visualize your selection of work in a large scale across a 35' wall, each image is 4 x 4 ft. This is when cohesive work is better than varied styles and makes a greater impact.

3. The booth image can sometimes be a deal breaker. Make sure your booth image represents your work well. In the event that multiple artists have similar work, the booth shot can sometimes be the determining factor.
